Safe food离不开safe packaging, but the International Association of Food Packaging found in its investigation of common packaging products on the Chinese market that food packaging is full of hidden dangers. In the words of Dong Jinshi, Secretary-General of the International Association of Food Packaging: "Packaging products in contact with food are called 'invisible additives'. Currently, many food safety incidents are caused by packaging."
1. Napkins
The association investigated napkins in some supermarkets, farmers' markets in Jin-Jin-Tang area. The results found that 80% of napkins in restaurants are unqualified. The main problem is that manufacturers use waste paper in the production process. To cover impurities and whiten, they add toxic fluorescent brighteners, industrial talc powder, etc., which are potential carcinogens. If the napkin is dull and rough, the paper is relatively hard, and paper debris falls off, do not use it to wipe your mouth. Colorful or printed napkins should also be avoided as much as possible.
2. Disinfecting Wet Wipes
Currently, some disinfecting wet wipes on the market have two problems: bacteria exceeding the standard and the addition of substances such as fluorescent brighteners and industrial-grade fragrances. Therefore, when buying wet wipes, be sure to check the label, manufacturer, expiration date, etc. Infants and young children should use them as little as possible.
3. Disposable Foam Food Containers
As early as 11 years ago, China banned the production and use of disposable foam food containers. However, due to their low cost and light weight, many companies are still producing them illegally. Substances such as polystyrene and dimers in disposable foam plastic tableware can damage reproductive function. It is recommended that when using plastic food containers, choose those with a QS标志, and try to use them as little as possible for oily or high-temperature foods.
4. Melamine Tableware
Melamine tableware, with its bright colors, light weight and durability, has become a dedicated tableware for parents to feed their babies, but improper use can harm health. Currently, it is difficult to distinguish the quality of melamine tableware from its appearance. In addition to buying from supermarkets or regular stores, it is best to buy fewer colored ones and never heat them in a microwave oven.
5. PVC Plastic Wrap
PVC plastic wrap contains plasticizers and is listed as a restricted category by the state. It is also stipulated that it cannot be used to directly package meat, cooked food, and greasy food. However, the investigation found that it is widely used in supermarkets to wrap food. Therefore, it is recommended to tear off the plastic wrap after buying cooked food from the supermarket and put it in other containers. When buying plastic wrap, note that the yellowish one is PVC material, and the white one is qualified PE material.
6. Colorful Straws
The investigation found that straws in small restaurants, drink shops, and breakfast stalls are all "three-no" products (no manufacturer, no production date, no quality certificate). The more vibrant the color, the greater the safety hazard.
7. Moon Cake Plastic Trays
The investigation found that moon cake trays contain a large amount of plasticizers, with the highest exceeding the standard by 800 times. It is best to buy moon cakes with simple packaging; the more complex and gorgeous the packaging, the more likely it is to have problems.
8. Stainless Steel Tableware
Cutting corners and excessive heavy metals have become the main problems of stainless steel tableware. As it is made of heavy metals such as iron, chromium, and nickel, it is easy to rust after long-term contact with acid and alkali substances. Therefore, use it less for seasonings. In addition, when buying stainless steel cookware, pay attention to the "18—8" mark. The larger the number, the stronger the product's rust resistance and the better its performance.
