Beat prickly heat this autumn with these fruits and vegetables.

Although the Start of Autumn has passed, the temperature remains high. In many places, there is even the phenomenon of "Indian summer." If parents are not careful, their babies can develop heat rash. So, what can be done to help prevent heat rash in babies?

I. Control the indoor environment temperature

In hot weather, many families use air conditioners or electric fans to lower the temperature at home, which can also reduce the baby's sweating. The room temperature should generally be kept around 25°C, and the humidity should not exceed 60%. After running for a period of time, open the windows for ventilation. Also, do not point the air conditioner or fan directly at the baby.

II. Dress in light, cool clothing

The clothes parents choose for their baby should preferably be made of cotton and be breathable. This can reduce skin irritation from clothing and also help dissipate body heat. Parents should not dress their baby in thick clothes as soon as autumn arrives. At this time, clothes should be chosen for the baby according to the weather conditions.

III. Keep the skin dry

Babies are active and can't stay still, so they sweat easily. At this time, parents should immediately wipe them clean with a towel or tissue paper, especially in areas where sweat tends to accumulate, such as the neck, armpits, and joints of the arms and legs. Parents can give the baby more baths to clean their skin and help them sweat. After bathing, dry the body immediately; do not use a cold towel or rinse the baby with cold water after they have sweated, as this can cause skin pores to contract, leading to delayed sweat excretion and triggering heat rash.

IV. The baby's diet should be light

Parents should give their child easy-to-digest and nutritious foods, such as those containing protein or vitamins. Give the baby plenty of water to replenish lost fluids. At the same time, supplement the baby's salt intake in a timely manner. Parents can also give their baby some vegetables and fruits:

1. Watermelon rind: Wash the watermelon rind, cut it into small pieces, and rub it on the affected area until it turns slightly red. Do this 2-3 times a day, and it will be effective after two days.

2. Bitter melon: Wash the bitter melon, slice it, and mash it. Apply the juice directly to the baby's heat rash.

3. Raw cucumber juice: Wash the raw cucumber, slice it, and apply it to the affected area, or squeeze the cucumber into juice and apply it to the heat rash. It will be cured after a few applications.

V. Do not use heat rash powder indiscriminately

Heat rash powder is the first choice for many parents. Although it can absorb sweat and prevent heat rash, it cannot treat it. If heat rash powder is applied to skin folds, it will only worsen the baby's condition. Therefore, do not use heat rash powder on the baby after they develop heat rash; targeted medication should be used instead.
