According to a new study reported by Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun, eating lemons can help improve calcium absorption and assist in lowering blood pressure.

This research was conducted jointly by Hiroshima University and Hiroshima City Aki Tsu Hospital. Researchers focused on the citric acid in lemons, which helps promote calcium absorption in the human body. They conducted a study on 44 middle-aged and elderly women, having them drink 200 milliliters of a calcium-fortified lemon juice beverage daily for six months. The subsequent analysis showed that the average amount of calcium dissolved from the participants' bones into their blood decreased by about 14%, and their bone density increased by an average of 1.32% after three months. By the end of the six-month trial, the increased bone density was largely maintained. Their initial average systolic blood pressure was 134.6 mmHg, which dropped to 125.6 mmHg within one month after the trial began and remained at that level until the end of the trial.
