Skin problems can actually be caused by what you eat—too many photosensitive foods.

Many people believe that skin diseases are contracted through infection, but this is not the case. Most skin diseases are not contagious. In daily life, if you are not mindful of your diet, it is easy to "develop" skin problems from what you eat.

Eating too many photosensitive foods. Some people consume large quantities of vegetables such as celery, rapeseed, spinach, and cabbage, which can easily lead to photosensitive dermatitis after sun exposure.

Severe dietary imbalance. Loving meat while eating few vegetables and fruits can not only lead to obesity but also cause deficiencies in B vitamins, such as xeroderma, dermatitis, and angular cheilitis. Additionally, obese individuals often have loose skin with skin cracks, known medically as striae. Some obese children are also prone to pseudoacanthosis nigricans.

Allergic constitution. For people with a tendency towards allergies, consuming common allergens like peanuts, seafood, or milk can lead to skin itching and easily trigger skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, or urticaria. Furthermore, if allergic individuals eat too much high-protein food during a cold or when fatigued, it can also induce urticaria.

Eating too greasy. Frequently consuming greasy food can lead to fat metabolism disorders over time, which manifests on the skin as eruptive xanthomatosis, with xanthelasma being one type. Additionally, excessive oil secretion can lead to seborrhea on the head and face, damage hair follicles, increase dandruff, and cause skin conditions like seborrheic alopecia and dermatitis.

Eating out frequently. Nowadays, many people eat all three meals outside. If the food hygiene is not up to standard, it is easy to get infected with Helicobacter pylori, which can not only cause gastric ulcers but, in some cases, also lead to chronic urticaria, allergic purpura, or psoriasis.

Careless eating habits. When giving children fruit, try to let the food go directly into their mouth. Especially when eating fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, bananas, and mangoes, the peels contain large amounts of the allergen histamine. Constant contact with facial skin can easily cause localized contact dermatitis or perioral dermatitis.

Taking supplements without regard to season. Some people enjoy supplements such as longan and ginseng, but they do not consider the season or the proper dosage. Consuming them during hot weather can easily lead to "internal heat," resulting in conditions like oral herpes and folliculitis.
