Fatsia has four new uses, but do not take it long-term.

With the effects of clearing heat, moistening the lungs, relieving a sore throat, and detoxifying, Sterculia lychnophora can also treat the following conditions.

Acute Tonsillitis

Take 4-8 pieces of Sterculia lychnophora, steep them in boiling water, cover and let sit for about half an hour before drinking slowly. Repeat the process after 4 hours. Generally, it will be cured in 2-3 days.

Conjunctivitis

In the early stages of conjunctivitis, take 3-4 light yellowish-brown, large, and hard pieces of Sterculia lychnophora and steep them in cool water until they soften. Then, rinse the affected eye with 0.9% saline solution. Completely cover the upper and lower eyelids of the affected eye with the softened Sterculia lychnophora (1-2 pieces per eye), secure with gauze, and do this once every night. It can be cured in 3-4 days.

Sterculia Lychnophora and Licorice Tea

Gum Swelling and Pain

To treat dry cough, loss of voice, sore throat, and gum swelling and pain caused by external wind-heat, take 5 pieces of Sterculia lychnophora and 3 grams of licorice, steep them as tea and drink. For the elderly, a little rock sugar can be added.

Internal Heat and Hematochezia

Take 3-5 pieces of Sterculia lychnophora, place them in a cup and steep in boiling water until they expand. Remove the pits, add an appropriate amount of rock sugar to mix evenly, and consume the softened Sterculia lychnophora along with the liquid. This remedy can also treat constipation caused by internal heat, and it usually takes effect after one day of consumption.

Note: Sterculia lychnophora is not suitable for long-term use. As it promotes intestinal peristalsis and has a mild laxative effect, people with poor gastrointestinal function cannot take it long-term. Sterculia lychnophora also has a blood pressure-lowering effect. People with normal or low blood pressure who take it long-term may be at risk of hypotension. The liver and kidney function of the elderly declines to varying degrees, so they should be even more cautious when taking Sterculia lychnophora.
