A single clove of garlic is all it takes to cure a cold and cough.

The weather has been unpredictable lately, and many moms have reported that their children are coughing severely. Today, the editor is recommending a few methods that can cure coughs without injections or medicine, so your child can recover comfortably!

Garlic, being white in color, enters the lung meridian. Its nature is pungent and warm, making it excellent for dispelling wind pathogens from the lung meridian and has a remarkable effect on treating coughs accompanied by a sore throat! Here are the specific methods, all proven remedies. Just choose one!

Method 1: Peel a clove of garlic and hold it in your mouth. Bite it gently from time to time. As the garlic's flavor is released, swallow it slowly. Hold one clove for an hour, and the throat itchiness will immediately reduce, and the cough can be cured.

Method 2: Boil garlic with rock sugar. Use 30 grams of garlic, 10 grams of rock sugar, and 200ml of water. First, bring the water to a boil over high heat, then simmer on low heat for a few minutes, finally reducing it to a small bowl. When a child's cough is severe, drink it three times a day in the morning, afternoon, and evening. It will show results the next day and be cured in three days.

Method 3: Take three or four garlic cloves, peel them, and slice each clove thinly. At night before bed, roast the sliced garlic over a flame until it is dry and yellow. Then, crush the slices into a fine powder with a rolling pin—the finer, the better. Scoop one tablespoon of the garlic powder into a teacup, add a suitable amount of brown sugar, pour in boiling water, stir well, and drink. Drink one or two cups a day for three consecutive days to cure the cough.

Method 4: Steamed garlic water. For a child's wheezing and cough, use 2-3 cloves of garlic; for an adult, use 7-8 cloves. Crush them, place them in a bowl, add rock sugar, and then add an appropriate amount of water, filling the bowl to about 2/3 of its height. Cover the bowl and place it in a steamer. Once the water in the steamer comes to a boil over high heat, reduce the heat to low and steam for 15 minutes. In severe cases, drink it three times a day; you can just drink the water without eating the garlic.

Method 5: Boil ginger, garlic, and brown sugar water. If the cough is severe with a large amount of thin, white phlegm, it indicates a strong cold invasion. You should drink water boiled with ginger, garlic, and brown sugar. For a child, use 3 slices of ginger, 3 cloves of garlic, and half a spoon of brown sugar. For an adult, use 7-8 slices of ginger, 7-8 cloves of garlic, and one spoon of brown sugar. Add them to a pot with water, cook over medium heat for 10 minutes. In severe cases, it can be taken three times a day.

Method 6: Take more than ten garlic cloves, mash them into a paste, and place in a cup. Add an appropriate amount of rock sugar and pour in boiling water. Take it warm like tea. Once daily for mild cases, twice daily for severe cases. This remedy has a special effect for quickly stopping coughs and resolving phlegm.

Method 7: Applying garlic to the soles of the feet to treat coughs. Every night before bed, wash your feet, slice the garlic thinly, and apply it to the Yongquan acupoint on the sole of the foot (located one-third of the way up from the heel). Secure it with medical tape. Garlic can irritate the skin, so the application time should not be too long; it's best to remove it in the morning. This method is also effective for coughs, nosebleeds, and constipation. Better results can be seen after 7-10 consecutive days. A small number of people may develop blisters on the area where the garlic is applied. It is recommended to stop the application and wait for the skin to heal before trying again. This generally prevents blisters from forming again.

Method 8: Mash garlic cloves into a paste and put it into an empty medicine bottle. Point the bottle opening towards your nostrils and try to inhale the pungent smell of garlic. Depending on the condition, you can smell it 4-5 times a day. Replace the garlic paste when the pungent smell fades. The bottle should not be too large, just enough to cover both nostrils. Alternatively, you can peel and wash several garlic cloves, place them in a large jar filled with honey, seal the lid, and let them soak for about a week before taking them out to eat.

Health Tips

Coughs are categorized into wind-cold coughs and wind-heat coughs. Different types of coughs require different medications, and therefore, different dietary therapy methods as well. Wind-heat cough: A yellow and red tongue coating indicates a large amount of internal heat. Yellow, thick, and difficult-to-expel phlegm, accompanied by a sore throat, suggests you should eat foods that clear the lungs and resolve phlegm to stop coughs, such as winter melon, loofah, and lotus root.

Wind-cold cough: A white tongue coating indicates a strong cold. Thin, white, and sticky phlegm, accompanied by a stuffy nose and runny nose, suggests you should eat warm foods that resolve phlegm and stop coughs, such as ginger, garlic, chives, and oranges.
