The Japan Agricultural News reported: Eating citrus fruits can help prevent cancer, and the sweeter they are, the better the anti-cancer effect.
According to research, the reason citrus fruits can fight cancer is that they contain a large amount of β-cryptoxanthin. The anti-cancer effect of β-cryptoxanthin in citrus is five times stronger than that of β-carotene found in carrots as we know it. In addition, naringin found in the peels of oranges, pomelos, and other fruits also has a good anti-cancer effect.
Scientists have also found that the higher the sugar content of citrus fruits, the more β-cryptoxanthin they contain, and thus the better the anti-cancer effect.
Moreover, after drying and storage, the content of β-cryptoxanthin in citrus does not change. An ordinary person can achieve a good anti-cancer effect by eating two sweet citrus fruits a day. Generally, citrus fruits that are flatter in shape, have fine and dense small particles on their peel, and are darker in color are sweeter. Conversely, if these particles are uneven and the peel feels rough, its pulp will be tasteless, and of course, its anti-cancer effect will be poor.
