Winter is the season when all things wither, but with the development of modern science, a wide variety of fresh vegetables and fruits are now available even in the cold winter. So, which fruits are healthy to eat in winter?
1. Navel Orange
The navel orange, originally named sweet orange, is also known as orange or fragrant orange. It has a moderately sweet and sour taste, is juicy, and rich in vitamin C. The navel orange is sweet in flavor and neutral in nature, and has many benefits, such as nourishing the spleen and stomach, promoting the production of body fluids to quench thirst, clearing the lungs and resolving phlegm, moisturizing the skin and beautifying the complexion, soothing the liver and regulating qi, promoting lactation and preventing cancer, and sobering up. However, it has a high sugar content, so diabetics should consume it with caution.
2. Longan
The longan is warm in nature and sweet in flavor. It has many benefits, such as strengthening yang and replenishing qi, nourishing the heart and spleen, nourishing blood and calming the mind, and moisturizing the skin and improving complexion. It can be used to treat anemia, palpitations, insomnia, forgetfulness, neurasthenia, and weakness after illness or childbirth. However, it is considered a "heaty" food, and eating too much can easily lead to a dry mouth and throat, mouth ulcers, herpes around the mouth, or nosebleeds.
3. Starfruit
The starfruit is also known as five-ridge fruit, five-angled fruit, yangtao, and carambola. It is a fruit that can also be used as a medicine. The starfruit fruit is mainly effective for wind-heat. Because it contains a lot of water, it has the effect of promoting the production of body fluids to quench thirst and clearing heat and detoxifying. Its large amounts of sugars and vitamins can supplement the body's nutrients with regular consumption. Meanwhile, oxalic acid, citric acid, and malic acid can increase the acidity of gastric juice and have the effect of aiding digestion.
4. Persimmon
Sweet persimmons are rich in potassium, phosphorus, iron, iodine, beta-carotene, vitamin A, and vitamin C, with vitamin C content being 1 to 2 times higher than that of most other fruits. They also contain small amounts of protein, fat, and crude fiber. Persimmons can clear heat and relieve coughs, lower blood pressure and stop bleeding, and prevent constipation. However, unripe persimmons should not be eaten to avoid causing stomach discomfort.
5. Rambutan
The rambutan, also known as毛荔枝 (hairy lychee), has a similar way of eating and flesh to the lychee. It is also a "heaty" food, so it should not be eaten in large quantities.
