Spring is an excellent time for consuming honey. Traditional Chinese Medicine posits that the efficacy of honey varies depending on the nectar source, and buyers should select a type that suits their specific needs.
Lychee Honey
A unique honey variety from the Lingnan region of China, harvested from the nectar of lychee blossoms. It boasts a rich, fragrant aroma and a sweet taste, and contains a variety of vitamins. Lychee honey is known to nourish the heart and Qi, stimulate the appetite, fortify the spleen, nourish the blood, calm the spirit, moisten the lungs, and dispel cold to alleviate pain. It is suitable for individuals suffering from malnutrition, physical weakness, anemia, and postpartum debilitation.
Linden Honey
A unique honey variety from Northeast China, harvested from the Changbai Mountains and the Greater and Lesser Khingan Ranges. It has a light amber color, a strong fragrance, and is prone to crystallization, offering an excellent taste. In addition to the general benefits of honey, such as nourishing the stomach, tonifying deficiency, clearing heat, and detoxifying, it also possesses health-promoting properties including antibacterial effects, aiding digestion, protecting the liver and kidneys, and delaying aging.
Acacia Honey
It has a thick consistency and is slow to crystallize, featuring a light, elegant floral fragrance with a sweet and aromatic taste. Acacia honey is effective for clearing heat, removing dampness, promoting urination, cooling the blood, and stopping bleeding. It is particularly suitable for individuals with cardiovascular issues or hemorrhoids.
Goji Berry Honey
It has the effects of tonifying the kidneys and essence, nourishing the liver to improve vision, and moistening the lungs to relieve cough. It is more suitable for individuals with a deficiency of both Qi and blood, hypertension, a weak constitution, declining vision, anemia, or chronic hepatitis.
Jujube Honey
It can tonify the spleen and stomach, supplement the middle burner to boost Qi, and nourish the blood to calm the spirit. It is particularly suitable for women who experience aversion to cold, stomach pain of a "deficient-cold" type, or a "deficient-cold" spleen and stomach and insufficient Qi and blood.
Note: Honey is best taken with warm water below 60°C, as high temperatures can destroy its nutritional components. It should ideally not be consumed with "cold-natured" foods to avoid causing diarrhea. It is best to consume honey one hour before a meal or two hours after a meal.
