In spring, the climate in northern regions is dry and windy, which weakens the body's defenses against pathogens in the respiratory tract, making one susceptible to pharyngitis. In terms of diet, foods that promote saliva production and reduce internal heat are suitable for vocal cord health. Below are several dietary therapy methods.
Goji Berry Porridge
Ingredients: 15g goji berries, 150g glutinous rice.
Method: Wash the glutinous rice and goji berries separately, add water, and let them sit for 30 minutes. Cook into a porridge over low heat. Take one bowl daily. It has the effect of nourishing yin and moistening the throat, and is suitable for those with chronic pharyngitis and a dry throat.
Chicken Broth, Goji Berry, and Chinese Yam Porridge
Sugarcane and Radish Drink

It has the effect of nourishing yin and reducing fire, and is suitable for vocal fatigue, chronic pharyngitis, symptoms of excess internal heat such as a dry throat, flushed face, and hot palms and soles.
Sesame and Brown Sugar Porridge
Ingredients: 50g sesame, 100g japonica rice, appropriate amount of brown sugar.
Method: First, roast the sesame seeds until cooked, then grind them into a fine powder. Cook the japonica rice into a porridge. When the porridge becomes thick, mix in the sesame and brown sugar and cook for a short while before serving. This porridge is fragrant and delicious, and is suitable for symptoms such as liver and kidney deficiency, dizziness, blurred vision, and dry lung cough.
Sterculia Lychnophora
This herb has a mild, sweet, and neutral nature. Place 1-2 pieces in a cup, steep with boiling water. In a moment, the Sterculia Lychnophora will expand in the water, resembling a blooming flower, and is ready to drink. The taste is slightly bitter but not astringent, with a cool sensation, and can be consumed as tea. However, note that Sterculia Lychnophora is a cooling Chinese herb and should not be taken for a long period by those with symptoms of deficiency-cold.
