The common cold is one of the most common respiratory diseases throughout the year. Now, during the spring season when all things are reviving, the fluctuating temperatures make it easier to catch a cold. The most common symptom of a cold is coughing, which causes great harm to our respiratory health. So, how can we relieve a cough?
Four Don'ts for a Cold with Fever
First Don't: Eat too many eggs. Eggs are indeed nutritious, but it's not advisable to eat too many during a fever. This is because the protein in eggs produces additional heat when broken down in the body, increasing body temperature, worsening fever symptoms, prolonging the fever, and increasing the patient's discomfort.
Second Don't: Drink too much tea. Drinking strong tea can keep the brain in an excited state, speed up the pulse, and raise blood pressure, which in turn can raise the patient's body temperature and cause restlessness. Additionally, tea can affect the breakdown and absorption of medication, reducing its effectiveness.
Third Don't: Drink too many cold beverages. If the fever is caused by an infectious disease like bacterial dysentery from contaminated food, gastrointestinal function is impaired. Drinking too many cold beverages can worsen the condition, and in severe cases, it can even become life-threatening.
Fourth Don't: Eat too much honey. During a fever, the focus should be on clearing heat, not on nourishing the body. Honey is a tonic that replenishes vital energy and the middle burner. Consuming too much honey can prevent internal heat from being properly cleared, and it can easily lead to other complications.
