A Few Things to Note When Eating Walnuts

Walnuts are a great food for health therapy. The phospholipids in walnuts have a beneficial effect on brain nerves. Walnut oil contains unsaturated fatty acids, which can help prevent and treat arteriosclerosis. Walnut kernels contain essential trace elements for the human body, such as zinc, manganese, and chromium. The cough-relieving and asthma-soothing effects of walnut kernels are also very significant.

In order to have a smart baby, many expectant mothers consciously eat more walnuts during pregnancy. Some pregnant women eat 10 to 20 walnuts every day, while others can eat half a pound of small walnuts at once. However, because walnuts are high in fat, eating too much will inevitably lead to excessive calorie intake, causing weight gain, which in turn affects the pregnant woman's normal blood sugar, blood lipids, and blood pressure. Therefore, the following points should be noted when consuming walnuts:

1. It should be taken in moderation and long-term.

Although the fat in walnut kernels is unsaturated fat that helps clear cholesterol, fat itself has high calories. If consumed excessively and not fully utilized, it will be stored by the body as cholesterol, which has the opposite effect. Generally, the daily intake of walnut kernels should be around 20-40 grams, which is equivalent to about 4-5 walnuts. At the same time, the intake of other fats should be appropriately reduced to avoid excessive calorie intake.

2. Do not peel the skin on the walnut kernels.

Some people like to peel off the thin brown skin on the walnut kernels, which will cause a loss of some nutrients, so do not remove this thin skin.

3. People who should not eat walnuts.

Walnuts are considered "heaty" and contain a lot of oil. Eating too many can cause "internal heat" and nausea, so people who are currently suffering from "internal heat" or diarrhea should not eat them.

US study finds that men who eat a handful of walnuts daily can improve sperm quality

Researchers at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health divided participants into two groups: one with a normal diet and the other that consumed an additional 75 grams of walnuts daily. Before and after the trial, researchers collected sperm samples from all participants and conducted a comparative analysis of sperm concentration, motility, shape and size, and chromosomal abnormalities. The results showed that only the men in the "walnut group" had a significant improvement in sperm quality.

Dr. Wendy Robbins, the lead researcher of the new study, stated that walnuts contain a considerable amount of omega-3 fatty acids. Multiple studies on male infertility have found that omega-3 fatty acids can improve sperm quality. This fatty acid and other polyunsaturated acids play a crucial role in improving sperm maturity and sperm membrane function.
