7 Anti-Nausea Foods: Choose the Right One for You

Traveling is supposed to be a pleasant experience, but for those who get motion sickness, it can create a sense of resistance. What can you eat to alleviate the symptoms? In fact, you don't necessarily need motion sickness medication; many common foods can also prevent it.

1. Preserved mustard greens

Preserved mustard greens are savory, aromatic, and delicious, making them a popular accompaniment to meals for many. Some also like to bring a couple of packs on their travels. Firstly, they are refreshing and appetizing, helping to relieve fatigue from the journey. Secondly, they can alleviate dizziness and stuffiness associated with motion sickness. Some even call preserved mustard greens "natural motion sickness pills." In the "Compendium of Materia Medica," it is recorded: "Preserved mustard greens are warm in nature, with the effect of ventilating the lungs and resolving phlegm, and can benefit the diaphragm and regulate qi." This is why they can stimulate the appetite and relieve motion sickness symptoms. Motion sickness is mainly caused by dysfunction of the vestibular system in the ear. Preserved mustard greens can open the nine orifices, harmonize the imbalance in the inner ear, and thus prevent motion sickness from the source. Additionally, they are rich in Vitamin B1, which has a calming effect on the nerves.

2. Orange peel

One hour before getting in the car, take a fresh orange peel, turn the outer side out, fold it in half towards you, hold it near your nostrils, and squeeze it with two fingers. The oil mist with a fragrant aroma that sprays out can suppress the nausea associated with motion sickness.

3. Ginger

Place a slice of fresh ginger in a small plastic bag and smell it by your nostrils anytime during the ride to inhale its pungent aroma. Ginger can prevent motion sickness because it absorbs stomach acid and prevents nausea.

4. Vinegar

Drink a glass of warm water with a few drops of vinegar 5-10 minutes before the journey to avoid motion sickness during the trip.

5. Lemons and olives

In the early stages of motion sickness, excessive saliva is produced, which drips into the stomach, causing a feeling of nausea. Olives and lemons contain tannic acid, which can dry the mouth. Therefore, eating olives or lemons when the first signs of nausea appear can help alleviate it.

6. Soda crackers

Although soda crackers cannot stop saliva secretion, once they reach the stomach, they can absorb excess stomach fluid and prevent nausea.

7. Coca-Cola and fruit juices

These two drinks can help children alleviate motion sickness. Orange juice and apple juice are quite effective, and carbonated colas are also effective. You might want to try both to find which one works better for you.
