These three types of foods can prevent cardiovascular disease.

The U.S. Reader's Digest website recently pointed out that to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases, one can appropriately increase the intake of three types of food in their diet.

Drink more tea. A recent study shows: compared to non-tea drinkers, those who drink a lot of tea (more than two cups a day) have a 44% lower mortality rate after a heart attack, while moderate tea drinkers have a 28% lower mortality rate. Researchers believe that an antioxidant called flavonoids in black and green tea can prevent arterial thrombosis, maintain blood vessel flexibility, and help protect health.

Eat more fish. Fish contains Omega-3 fatty acids, which can help prevent blood clots, lower triglycerides, and reduce vascular inflammation, contributing to health protection. A study found that over 16 years, women who ate fish five or more times a week had a one-third lower incidence of coronary heart disease and a 50% lower chance of having a heart attack. Fish rich in Omega-3 fatty acids include salmon, herring, sardines, tuna, etc.

Supplement with vitamins. The antioxidants in vitamins C and E can make cholesterol less likely to adhere to artery walls; folic acid can reduce a substance in the body called homocysteine, which is related to cardiovascular diseases. Vitamin C is found in many vegetables and fruits; vitamin E is found in peanuts, sunflower seeds, wheat germ, and vegetable oils; folic acid is found in various green leafy vegetables such as spinach, bok choy, broccoli, and lettuce, and is also abundant in animal foods such as liver, kidney, and dairy products.
