【Dietary Taboos for Chicken】
1. Chicken should not be eaten with carp.
Chicken is sweet and warm in nature, while carp is sweet and neutral. Chicken tonifies the middle jiao and assists yang, whereas carp descends qi and promotes urination. Although their natures are not in opposition, their functions are contradictory.
2. Chicken is incompatible with garlic.
Garlic is pungent, warm, and considered toxic in nature, primarily functioning to descend qi, aid digestion, expel wind, and kill toxins. Chicken, on the other hand, is sweet, sour, and warm, acting as a tonic. The functions of the two are mutually antagonistic. Furthermore, the pungent odor of garlic is also considered incompatible with chicken from a culinary perspective.
3. Chicken should not be eaten with mustard.
Consuming chicken with mustard can damage the body's vital energy (Yuan Qi). Mustard is a "hot" natured food, and chicken is a "warm-tonifying" food. The combination is believed to exacerbate heat, which is detrimental to health.
4. Chicken should not be eaten with chrysanthemums.
Generally, eating chicken and chrysanthemums together can lead to toxic reactions, so they should not be consumed together.
