Many people feel nauseous and want to vomit after intense exercise, especially long-distance running. Experts point out that this is mainly caused by insufficient blood supply to the stomach.
During intense exercise, blood is mainly supplied to the limbs, which leads to insufficient blood supply to the gastrointestinal tract. This weakens gastrointestinal function and reduces the stomach's ability to absorb water. Water then seeps into cells and the intercellular matrix, increasing the volume of stomach contents. Additionally, the up-and-down motion during running causes the stomach to vibrate, making it more prone to discomfort and even triggering vomiting.
Experts advise that to alleviate post-exercise discomfort, avoid overly strenuous activities at the beginning of your workout. Also, before exercising, you can consume some low-fat, light, and high-calorie foods such as cookies, jam bread, or chocolate. At the same time, be mindful to drink an appropriate amount of water.
