Summer travel can easily lead to heatstroke. Mild cases include dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, and vomiting. Severe cases can involve sudden fainting, limb spasms, and even collapse and death. Therefore, effectively avoiding heatstroke during summer travel becomes a crucial skill. How can you reduce the occurrence of heatstroke during summer outings?
1. Wear light-colored clothes
Because white and light-colored clothes absorb heat slowly and dissipate heat quickly, keeping you cool; whereas black or blue clothes absorb heat quickly and dissipate heat slowly, making you feel stuffy and hot, and prone to heatstroke.
2. Wear a heat-insulating straw hat
The material of a woven straw hat is mostly hollow, storing a certain amount of air inside, and air is a poor conductor of heat. Additionally, straw hats provide a degree of protection from solar radiation.
3. Rest at noon
The weather is cool in the morning, so you should set out early. Rest at noon, and resume activities after 3 or 4 in the afternoon.
4. Drink more light salt water
Summer travel involves a lot of sweating, which reduces salt levels in the body. Drinking more light salt water can replenish the lost salt. When drinking light salt water, it should be done in small, frequent sips to be effective.
5. Bring heatstroke prevention medicine
When traveling in the summer, you should bring some medicines like Ren Dan (Fragrant Ball), Fengyoujing (Medicated Balm), and Shui Dian Shui (Ten Drops). If heatstroke occurs, move the patient to a cool, ventilated place to lie down and have them take some Ren Dan or Shui Dian Shui. If the patient faints, you can press the Renzhong point (on the philtrum) with your fingers. Once the patient's condition improves, send them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
