Milk is rich in high-quality protein, fats that are easily digested and absorbed by the human body, as well as calcium, vitamins A and D, making it a food favored by the general public. However, medical experts remind people to note that there are some situations where drinking milk is not advisable.
Milk is not advisable after gastrointestinal surgery. During storage, milk is prone to producing Lactobacillus, which can produce gas after fermentation. Due to the impact of surgical procedures on abdominal organs during gastrointestinal surgery, coupled with the temporary inhibitory effect of anesthesia, intestinal motility is weakened, and accumulated gas in the intestinal cavity after surgery is not easily expelled. If milk is consumed after gastrointestinal surgery, it can worsen intestinal bloating, which is undoubtedly "adding fuel to the fire" for a sluggish intestine. Therefore, patients after gastrointestinal surgery should avoid milk and other gas-producing foods, and should be given liquid diets such as rice soup and lotus root starch.
When patients with cirrhosis of the liver fall into hepatic coma, milk is not advisable. The breakdown products of protein in milk can increase the concentration of blood ammonia in the human body. After the liver function of a cirrhosis patient is damaged, the liver loses its function of converting ammonia into urea. Therefore, if a patient with cirrhosis falls into a coma and drinks milk, it will accelerate or worsen hepatic coma.
Milk is not advisable for patients with acute nephritis. Under normal circumstances, the breakdown of protein in the body can produce various nitrogenous substances, most of which are excreted by the kidneys. Since the excretory function of the kidneys in patients with acute nephritis is already affected, protein intake in the diet should be strictly controlled to reduce the burden on the kidneys and to eliminate or alleviate the symptoms.
In conclusion, although milk is good, it should be tailored to the individual. Blind consumption not only brings harm to the body but also unnecessary trouble.
