Two Less, Two More in Diet to Prevent Autumn Dryness
In recent days, with rising temperatures, many people have experienced symptoms such as a dry mouth and throat, a sore throat, nosebleeds, and breakouts. Experts say this is actually due to "autumn dryness" and recommend that people follow a "two less, two more" principle in their diet and engage in appropriate outdoor activities to prevent it.
Xiao Zhaowei, a veteran physician at the city's Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, advised that to prevent autumn dryness, one should eat less spicy food like ginger and chili peppers, and use fewer cooking methods like frying, pan-frying, and grilling. It is also recommended to eat more seasonal fruits that promote saliva and protect the lungs, such as oranges, grapes, and kiwis, and to drink more goji berry and honeysuckle tea.
Dr. Xiao said that eating more white radishes during this season can also prevent autumn dryness and promote health, which aligns with the traditional saying, "The radish in October is like a little ginseng." For more severe symptoms of autumn dryness, such as nosebleeds and constipation, people can use three Chinese herbs—Ophiopogon japonicus, Rehmannia root, and Scrophularia root—to boil a "Zeng Ye Tang" (Fluid-Increasing Decoction), which can effectively eliminate "dryness".
