Durian should not be eaten with alcohol (Photo)

Durian is most famous in Thailand and is hailed as the "King of Fruits." Its smell is intense; lovers praise its fragrance, while haters complain about its stench. Durian comes in varieties such as Monthong, Chanee, and Kanyao, with Monthong being the best quality and most expensive, named for its abundant flesh, soft and long-lasting texture, and pillow-like shape. The pulp of durian is considered "heaty" in nature; consuming too much can cause nosebleeds. To counteract this, mangosteen can be eaten, as it is known to clear heat.

Durian Consumption Taboos:

1. Durian should not be consumed with alcohol: Both are considered "heaty" and "dry." For diabetics, consuming them together can lead to vascular blockage, which in severe cases can cause burst blood vessels or stroke. It is not advisable.

2. Individuals with a "heaty" constitution, a sore throat, cough, a cold, a "yin-deficient" constitution, or sensitive airways should avoid eating durian, as it can worsen their condition and is not beneficial.

3. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, durian is considered "warming" and "heaty." Eating too much can cause internal heat to rise and lead to symptoms of "damp-heat." To alleviate discomfort, one should drink kelp and mung bean soup or Prunella vulgaris soup.

4. Durian is high in calories and sugar, so it should be consumed in moderation by those who are overweight.

5. Durian contains a high amount of potassium, so individuals with kidney or heart problems should eat it in moderation.

6. Durian should not be eaten in large quantities at once. If a ripe durian has an alcoholic smell, it means it has spoiled and should not be eaten.
