Mooncakes are a "three-high" food, meaning they are high in oil, sugar, and fat. Generally, a Cantonese mooncake can have as many as 850 calories, equivalent to three bowls of white rice; a 60g egg yolk pastry has about 200 calories, equivalent to one bowl of white rice; and a small green bean cake mooncake has nearly 50-100 calories, equivalent to one and a half slices of toast. Special populations should be cautious, and even ordinary people should not overindulge.
1. Infants and young children: Their digestive systems are not fully developed, and their digestive organs are delicate and fragile, making it difficult to handle large amounts of high-sugar, high-fat foods.
2. The elderly: With poorer digestion and absorption capabilities, overeating can加重 the burden on the spleen and stomach, leading to indigestion, diarrhea, and other illnesses. It is best to eat only one mooncake a day, and consume it in several sittings.
3. The obese: Mooncakes are inherently high in oil, sugar, and fat, so the obese should not eat them excessively.
4. Diabetics: Due to their high sugar content, eating too many mooncakes can cause a sharp rise in blood sugar, worsening the condition.
5. Cholecystitis and cholelithiasis: It is not advisable to eat too many mooncakes, as excessive consumption can trigger a disease flare-up. Overindulging may lead to acute pancreatitis, which has a rapid onset and can be fatal for some patients in a short period.
6. Duodenitis or gastritis: Mooncakes can stimulate the secretion of large amounts of stomach acid, which is detrimental to disease recovery and consumption should be controlled.
7. Hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and coronary heart disease: Do not eat too many mooncakes. The sugar and oils in mooncakes can increase blood viscosity, worsen myocardial ischemia, and even induce a myocardial infarction.
