You can't eat mutton随心所欲; health is the most important thing. There are five situations in which you should not eat mutton.
1. Avoid eating with tea
Tea is a "nemesis" of mutton. This is because mutton is rich in protein, and tea contains a lot of tannic acid. Drinking tea while eating mutton will produce tannic acid protein, which weakens intestinal peristalsis, reduces water in the stool, and can induce constipation.
2. Avoid eating mutton with certain conditions
Those who often have mouth and tongue sores, red eyes, a bitter taste in the mouth, irritability, a dry and sore throat, swollen gums, or diarrhea should avoid eating mutton. It is also forbidden for those taking traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions containing Pinellia Tuber or Acorus Tatarinowii.
3. Not suitable for eating with vinegar
Sour vinegar has an astringent effect, which is not conducive to the generation of Yang energy in the body. Eating it with mutton will greatly reduce its warming and nourishing effect.
4. Avoid eating with watermelon
Eating watermelon after mutton can easily "damage vital energy". This is because mutton is sweet and warm in nature, while watermelon is cold and belongs to raw and cold foods. Eating it not only greatly reduces the warming and nourishing effect of mutton, but also harms the spleen and stomach.
5. Not suitable for eating with pumpkin
Ancient Chinese medical texts also record that mutton is not suitable for eating with pumpkin. This is mainly because both mutton and pumpkin are warm and heaty foods. If eaten together, they can easily cause "internal heat" (shang huo). By the same token, when cooking mutton, you should also use less of the spicy, warm, and dry seasonings such as chili, pepper, ginger, cloves, and fennel.
