Eating Instant Noodles with the Broth Can Easily Lead to Hypertension

Introduction: Instant noodles are a favorite for many people, but it's also common knowledge that they shouldn't be eaten frequently; an occasional serving is acceptable. Experts have found that eating instant noodles with the broth can increase the risk of hypertension.

Recently, the Hong Kong Consumer Council tested 48 instant noodle products on the market and found that 13 of them had excessive sodium and total fat content. The sodium content in some instant noodles was as high as over 4000 milligrams, more than double the daily upper limit (2000 milligrams, which is about one teaspoon of 6 grams of salt). If you eat the entire pack of noodles with the broth, it is equivalent to consuming two teaspoons of salt.

Excessive sodium intake increases the risk of developing hypertension. A Food Safety Center expert stated that the sodium in instant noodles mainly comes from the seasoning and soup packets, which are rich in salt and sauce. The expert advises consumers to pay attention to nutrition labels when choosing instant noodles, selecting products with lower sodium and total fat content. When eating, it's best to use as little of the seasoning and soup packets as possible and drink less of the broth. If you want a healthier meal, it's best to choose non-fried and traditional noodles with seasoning, such as udon or rice noodles, and add vegetables.
