Three Ways to Make Chinese Medicine Less Bitter to Drink
As the saying goes, "Good medicine tastes bitter to the mouth," but when faced with a real bowl of "bitter water," most people still worry about how to get it down. In fact, the following three methods can make Chinese medicine less bitter to drink.
1. Let it cool. The taste buds on the tongue are most sensitive at 37°C. As the temperature of the food decreases, the sense of taste gradually weakens. Therefore, the first step is to let the medicinal soup cool to around 25°C at room temperature. But be careful, if the soup is too cold, it can damage the spleen and stomach.
2. Use a straw. The taste buds that perceive bitterness on the tongue are mainly in the middle of the root. Using a thick straw to drink the medicine can minimize contact between the medicine and the tongue.
3. Rinse with cold water. Rinsing your mouth with cold water immediately after taking the medicine can also reduce the bitterness. It's best to drink another half cup of warm water afterward, which can both warm the stomach and help with the absorption of the medicine.
