While Ejiao is beneficial, it's not suitable for everyone.
Introduction: Ejiao is a wonderful remedy, but only for those with blood deficiency or a deficiency of both qi and blood. To put it another way, people with a so-called "balanced constitution" who are neither deficient nor excessive can also take it. Conversely, those with excess pathogenic factors in their body should not take it. Doing so will not only be of no benefit but will also lead to spending money to suffer.
What are the benefits of Ejiao?
A premier blood tonic
Other names: Fuzhi glue, Penfu glue, Donkey-hide glue
Flavor and channel tropism: Sweet in flavor, neutral in nature; enters the Liver, Lung, and Kidney meridians.
TCM Efficacy: Nourishes blood and stops bleeding, nourishes yin and moistens dryness.
Explanation of Functions
*Ejiao nourishes blood. Taking it can promote the growth of hemoglobin and red blood cells, with better efficacy than iron supplements. It can effectively improve symptoms of blood deficiency such as pale lips, nails, and eyelids; sallow complexion; dizziness; and palpitations.
*Ejiao stops bleeding and can be used to treat bleeding conditions such as hemoptysis, hematemesis, hematuria, hemafecia, and bleeding during pregnancy.
*Ejiao nourishes yin and moistens dryness. During the dry springs and autumns, which often lead to respiratory diseases like cough, Ejiao can be used to nourish the lung fluids to treat coughs. It can also be used for conditions like vexation and insomnia caused by insufficient body fluids.
Modern Pharmacological Research
Ejiao is a type of gelatin protein. Hydrolysis produces various amino acids, which are excellent for nourishing the skin, making it a great beauty product. It also contains various trace elements beneficial to health, such as potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, and iron.
Administration Guide: 5-10 grams, dissolved in hot water and taken alone, or added to a Chinese herbal decoction for consumption.
Kind Reminder: Not suitable for individuals with a phlegm-dampness constitution.
Who should not take Ejiao:
One: People with severe dampness in the body. This can manifest as a dry, bitter, or sticky mouth, fatigue, dizziness or fogginess, abdominal bloating, and poor bowel movements. Most importantly, the tongue coating will be thick and greasy, either white or yellow.
Two: People with blood stasis in the body. This can manifest as a dull complexion, hyperpigmentation, a tendency to bruise, dark lips, a dark tongue with possible ecchymosis, purplish and thickened sublingual veins, and a choppy pulse. Women often have menstrual irregularities, typically delayed periods, blood clots, abdominal pain, dark color, and a short duration of flow.
Three: People who are prone to "fire" or heatiness, such as those with heart fire, liver fire, or lung fire, or even those with yin deficiency and fire. If they only take Ejiao, they may experience a condition where their body cannot handle the tonic, and the fire will become even stronger.
