Introduction: The reason fruits are beneficial for health is that they come from nature, are natural foods, and various fruits are rich in vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and antioxidants, which can nourish the body, promote metabolism, increase the body's resistance and immunity, and have the effects of health preservation, nourishment, disease prevention, and treatment.
Principles for eating fruit in spring:
1. Eat a combination of "cold" and "hot" fruits
Warm-natured fruits mainly include: cherries, peaches, chestnuts, jujubes, walnut kernels, tangerines, kumquats, etc. However, eating too many warm-natured fruits can easily lead to "heatiness" (上火).
Cool-natured fruits mainly include: bananas, sugarcane, mangoes, loquats, apples, pears, strawberries, pomelos, oranges, etc.
Neutral-natured fruits mainly include: pineapples, starfruits, papayas, lilies, lotus seeds, peanuts, hazelnuts, black sesame seeds, etc. Among the fruits we usually eat, neutral-natured fruits account for the largest proportion, followed by warm-natured, and then cool-natured.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) emphasizes the balance and harmony of Yin and Yang. Therefore, people with a "heat" constitution should eat more cool-natured foods, while those with a "cold" constitution should eat more warm-natured foods. The same principle applies to eating fruits.
2. Eat sour and sweet fruits separately
Among the fruits eaten in spring, sour and sweet flavors are quite common. Sour fruits mainly include tangerines, grapefruits, loquats, hawthorns, pears, etc. They generally have effects such as astringent sweat, stimulating appetite, promoting fluid production, and aiding digestion. "Gan" (甘), or sweet, is a common flavor. Common sweet foods include sugarcane, pears, peanuts, watermelons, bananas, cherries, tangerines, black sesame seeds, chestnuts, jujubes, lotus seeds, longan flesh, goji berries, etc. They typically have effects such as nourishing, tonifying deficiency, and relieving pain. Some fruits are slightly sour and slightly sweet, such as apples, papayas, starfruits, pineapples, strawberries, lilies, pine nuts, hazelnuts, walnut kernels, raisins, etc., and are mostly classified as neutral-natured.
