What should you eat when you have a cold and a fever?

Introduction: People often ask me what they should eat when they have a cold and fever and have no appetite.

Among the three types of food—protein, fat, and carbohydrates—a high-fat diet is definitely not a good idea because your body produces less digestive fluid when you have a cold, making it hard to digest. The best protein-rich foods are eggs and milk (or yogurt). Eggs can be prepared as boiled eggs, steamed egg custard with milk, or poached eggs in fermented glutinous rice. Carbohydrate-rich foods are the simplest to eat when you have a cold or fever. You can choose fruits like watermelon, snow pear, apple, kiwi, and orange. If a sore throat makes it too painful to eat, you can juice them. If your throat is red and swollen, in addition to millet congee with lily and goji berries, lily and snow pear water, and fresh sugarcane juice are also suitable.

After a high fever and heavy sweating, not eating or drinking can easily lead to electrolyte imbalance. It's best to eat some watermelon or drink some fresh watermelon juice, as they can help lower your fever, replenish fluids, and reduce swelling.
