Three types of people should not eat honey.

Introduction: Honey has always been one of the most highly recommended foods by health enthusiasts. However, no matter how good a food is, it has two sides—"what is nourishing for others might be poison for you."

Honey is the most familiar bee product for humans. Modern medical research has proven that oral consumption of honey can treat diseases of the heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, lungs, and intestines, while external use can treat burns, frostbite, and moisturize the skin. Currently, it is believed that there are three types of people who should not eat honey:

Infants under one year old:

Honey is nutritious and a popular dietary choice. Many new mothers add honey to their infants' supplementary food to enhance flavor and nutritional value. However, experts point out that infants under one year old should not consume honey. During the brewing and transportation process, honey is easily contaminated with *Clostridium botulinum*. The spores of *Clostridium botulinum* are highly adaptable and can still survive at high temperatures of 100°C. Due to the weak gastrointestinal function of infants and poor liver detoxification capability, especially for those under six months old, *Clostridium botulinum* can easily multiply in the intestines and produce toxins, leading to poisoning.

Symptoms of poisoning usually occur 8 to 36 hours after consuming honey or honey-containing foods, and often include constipation, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Although the risk of an infant contracting *Clostridium botulinum* infection is low, doctors still advise: do not give honey or its products to your child before they turn one year old. Furthermore, experts also remind that children over one year old should also consume honey with caution, and the amount should be appropriately reduced compared to adults.

Diabetics:

In every 100 grams of honey, the carbohydrates consist of approximately 35 grams of glucose, 40 grams of fructose, about 2 grams of sucrose, and about 1 gram of dextrin. Glucose and fructose can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream without digestion after entering the intestines, causing blood sugar levels to rise. Sucrose and dextrin are absorbed after minimal hydrolysis. Therefore, honey has a particularly significant effect on raising blood sugar. From this perspective, diabetics should not consume honey.

Patients with cirrhosis:

Generally, patients with hepatitis B are very suitable for eating honey because the monosaccharides provided by honey do not need to be decomposed and synthesized by the liver, which can reduce the burden on the liver. However, patients with cirrhosis cannot eat honey because it can worsen liver fibrosis.
