Nine reasons to eat fish right away for a healthier brain, a longer life, and better vision!

Introduction: Recently, the American Huffington Post listed nine reasons to eat fish immediately, suggesting that eating it once or twice a week is even better.

Protect vision. Central retinal degeneration is a common cause of vision loss in the elderly. However, a large-scale study in France found that fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids can reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration.

Reduce the risk of heart disease. In the United States, heart disease remains the leading cause of death among adults. However, the Harvard School of Public Health observed that consuming about 2 grams of omega-3 fatty acids by eating fish once or twice a week can reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death by 36% and decrease the likelihood of death by 17%.

Boost brainpower. "If you are about to face an important task or exam, it is recommended that you eat more fish." A study published in the journal PLoS ONE pointed out that when fish oil rich in omega-3 fatty acids was given as a dietary supplement to a group of young people aged 18-25, their mental abilities steadily improved after 6 months. The reason, researchers believe, is that omega-3 fatty acids can affect the memory storage function.

Prevent rheumatoid arthritis. A study by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden involving 32,000 women showed that consuming 210 mg of omega-3 fatty acids daily, equivalent to eating one fatty fish or four lean fish per week, can reduce the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis by 52%.

Promote development. A diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids is particularly important for pregnant women as it can promote the development of the fetus's brain and nervous system. A 2007 study published in The Lancet found that consuming 3-4 servings of seafood (including fish) per week (about 340 grams) can significantly improve the intelligence, language expression, and motor skills of infants after birth.

Extend lifespan. A new study observed over 16 years found that eating fish can indeed help people live longer. Researchers found that consuming the beneficial fatty acids in fish can reduce mortality by 27%, and people who consistently eat fish can live two years longer than those who don't.

Prevent asthma. Eating more fish during childhood can effectively prevent asthma. A Dutch study of 7,210 children showed that children who started eating fish between 6 and 12 months old had a 36% lower risk of developing asthma by the age of 4. Researchers speculated that this may be related to the anti-inflammatory effects of eating more fish.

Protect skin. Fish oil has many benefits for the skin, such as regulating oil secretion and helping with moisturization. Additionally, studies have shown that eating more fish can protect the skin from UV damage, help preserve skin collagen, and thus prevent sagging, wrinkles, or drooping.

Increase sperm count. Dietary habits are very important for couples trying to conceive. The Fertility Center at Massachusetts General Hospital in the U.S. found that men who like to eat salmon, herring, and tuna have 34% more sperm count than others.
