Nowadays, due to irregular eating habits, there is a growing number of young patients with chronic stomach problems. Generally, food stays in the stomach for about 4 to 5 hours, and the chyme has a certain protective effect on the gastric mucosa. When a person feels hungry, the stomach is basically empty, and long-term exposure to this condition can disrupt gastrointestinal function, leading to gastritis, peptic ulcers, and more. To take good care of your stomach, you need to start with your daily diet and stay away from the following foods.
1. Fast Food
The fried foods in fast food are often crispy and hard. If hard fried food is swallowed without being chewed thoroughly, the stomach's contractions will cause the food to come into direct contact with the gastric mucosa, causing damage.
2. Leftover Rice
Some people, to avoid waste, reheat leftover rice before eating it. Research has found that leftover rice is harder to digest after being reheated, and long-term consumption may lead to stomach problems. This is because the main component of rice is starch, and when starch is heated above 60°C, it gradually expands and eventually "gelatinizes." When this gelatinized starch cools, it undergoes an "aging" phenomenon, and the human body's ability to hydrolyze and digest this aged starch is relatively low. Therefore, long-term consumption of reheated leftover rice can easily lead to indigestion and even stomach problems.
3. Processed Meat
Swedish scientists have stated that excessive consumption of processed meats, such as bacon, sausages, and smoked meat, increases the risk of stomach cancer. After evaluating 15 studies, they found that for every 30 grams increase in the daily intake of processed meat products, the risk of developing stomach cancer increases by 15% to 38%.
4. Citrus Juice
Acidic beverages can stimulate the esophagus, causing the sensory nerves to react, which can lead to redness and swelling in the affected area. If you drink a large glass of citrus juice in the morning, it will increase the acidity in your stomach. At the same time, drinking sweet lemonade with a high concentration of fructose is also not advisable, as excessive sugar intake can cause diarrhea.
5. Raw Onions
Onions are full of various nutrients and are very beneficial to health, such as having antibacterial properties and protecting the heart. However, they can also cause gastrointestinal discomfort, such as bloating and abdominal cramps. Generally, eating raw onions in vegetable or fruit salads is more likely to cause gastrointestinal discomfort, but cooked onions are less harmful to the stomach.
6. Soda
Soda is a relatively stimulating beverage that can irritate the stomach and intestines, leading to discomfort. Additionally, soda usually contains a large amount of sugar. Excessive consumption will also increase the burden on the stomach, causing problems like bloating and stomach pain.
