Ever since the fitness craze swept across the nation, fueled by step-counting social media posts, a flood of so-called "healthy foods" has been springing up everywhere!
Consequently, losing weight has transformed from a task achievable through sweat and perseverance into one that's a game over without some basic nutritional knowledge! So, if your weight loss isn't working, the real reason truly isn't a lack of effort on my part—it's that these companies are just too cunning, aren't they?
1. Puffed Rice Cakes
Puffed rice cakes soared to fame as a diet food during the low-fat diet craze of the late 1980s and 1990s. Coupled with buzzwords like "whole grain," "coarse grain," and "brown rice," they always give us dieters the feeling that they're super healthy, low-fat, and great for weight loss. But are puffed rice cakes actually a healthy food for weight loss?
Jiu-jie can only say that compared to chips and fried chicken, they're probably healthier; but they're not suitable for consumption during a diet! This is because the glycemic index of puffed rice cakes can be as high as 91 (what does that mean? Pure glucose has a glycemic index of 100!). In other words, puffed rice cakes are a carbohydrate with an extremely high glycemic index. When you eat them, your blood sugar shoots up like a roller coaster. In this situation, you're much more likely to store fat!
2. Low-Fat/Fat-Free Salad Dressing
Jiu-jie has recently noticed more and more "healthy" salad shops popping up below office buildings, but that doesn't mean there will be more thin people. Salads aren't a magic bullet for everyone! As I mentioned in my previous public account post, many ladies now know that regular "God of Love" brand salad dressing is just a code word for high calories, full of sugar and fat! So more and more people are choosing low-fat or even fat-free salad dressings!
But! Low-fat and fat-free salad dressings are rich in sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, emulsifiers, and other additives that make the taste better and the shelf life longer. I'd say you should just pass on those...
Jiu-jie sincerely recommends that you just go for vinaigrette on your salads! Use some olive oil and a little vinegar. The taste isn't as bad as you might think, but you'll feel much better eating it!
3. Sugary (Sports) Drinks
If you could only do one thing for your weight loss, it would be to stop drinking sugary (sports) drinks! This is something Jiu-jie has realized from chatting daily with nearly a hundred people trying to lose weight. There are always so many women around me who clearly don't eat much, yet their waistlines keep growing. This is because they underestimate the power of sugary drinks!
Scientific research has proven that drinking sugary beverages daily not only leads to an increase in cholesterol but also raises your triglyceride levels. Besides causing weight gain, these two factors also increase your risk of heart disease. Most importantly, drinking sugary drinks disrupts your body's inflammatory balance, increasing your likelihood of developing various chronic diseases! (Image source: Visual China)
