How to Make Sweet and Sour Tiger Skin Quail Eggs

Sweet and sour tiger skin quail eggs are a beloved snack, crispy on the outside, tender inside, and coated in a glossy, tangy sauce. Here’s a simple guide to making them at home.

Ingredients: 15-20 quail eggs, 2 tbsp cornstarch, oil for frying, 1/2 cup sugar, 3 tbsp vinegar, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 cup water, and a pinch of salt.

Steps:

1. Boil and peel the quail eggs. Place them in cold water, bring to a boil, then simmer for 5 minutes. Transfer to ice water, peel gently, and pat dry.

2. Create the tiger skin: Roll each egg in cornstarch, shaking off excess. Heat oil to 160°C (325°F), fry the eggs for 3-4 minutes until golden and slightly wrinkled. Drain on paper towels.

3. Make the sauce: In a pan, mix sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, water, and salt. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens slightly.

4. Coat the eggs: Add the fried eggs to the sauce, tossing gently to coat evenly. Simmer for 1-2 minutes, then serve hot or cold.

These eggs pair perfectly as appetizers or party snacks. Enjoy the crispy texture and sweet-sour balance!
