Eating more radishes in winter can aid digestion, nourish the stomach, and warm the body.

As the saying goes, "Eat radish in winter and ginger in summer, and you won't need a doctor to write prescriptions."

Traditional medicine holds that radish is pungent and sweet in flavor, and cool in nature. It can aid digestion, nourish the stomach, warm the body, regulate qi, and prevent stomach pain and ulcers. For its therapeutic effects, try the following recipes:

1. Cooked radish: 250g-500g daily

Effect: Relieves indigestion and promotes the flow of qi.

2. 500g of raw or cooked radish, mashed to extract juice, then consumed with an appropriate amount of rock sugar.

Effect: Relieves coughing, reduces phlegm, and alleviates wheezing.

Applicable for asthma, chronic bronchitis, and cough with excessive sputum due to external pathogens.

3. Fresh radish juice: 50g twice daily

Effect: Promotes the production of body fluids and cools the blood. Suitable for patients with high blood pressure.

4. Use raw radish juice as a gargle

Effect: Promotes the production of body fluids and has a detoxifying effect. Suitable for mouth ulcers.

5. Mash radish to get juice, and consume it along with ginger juice

Effect: Promotes the production of body fluids and benefits the throat. Used for loss of voice, nausea, and vomiting.

6. White radish leaves are rich in vitamin C. Making tea with them can prevent skin aging and stop the formation of dark spots.

In winter, people tend to eat more meat, which can easily lead to the production of phlegm and "heatiness". Eating radish with meat can prevent this "heatiness" and also provides excellent nutritional benefits. Examples include: beef or mutton stewed with radish, radish and mushroom stewed with tofu, vermicelli with radish, minced meat with radish, radish salad with cilantro and scallions, cold-dressed radish and tofu skin shreds, radish-filled dumplings, radish-filled buns, and radish balls.

Note: Radish should not be consumed with ginseng. People with a weak or "cold" spleen and stomach should not eat it raw.
