Frequent alternation between warm and cold in spring is the season when chronic bronchitis, asthma, and other conditions are prone to acute attacks. The reason these diseases often linger is due to the inability to expel old phlegm.
Therefore, "removing old phlegm" can be considered key to treating chronic bronchitis and asthma.
Kelp, a common food in our daily lives, has the effect of removing old phlegm.
In traditional Chinese medicine, kelp is known by its scientific name, *Laminaria japonica*, and was first recorded over 2,000 years ago in the ancient medical text "Bencao Bie Lu." The book describes kelp as salty and cold in nature, and it acts on the liver, stomach, and kidney meridians. It can resolve phlegm, soften hard masses, and promote urination. For the treatment of chronic bronchitis and asthma, it can be made into kelp syrup or a cold salad. Consistent consumption can eliminate old phlegm, thereby removing the triggering factors, and yields excellent results.
Method for Kelp Syrup: 1 jin (500g) of kelp, 45g of ginger, and an appropriate amount of brown sugar. Wash the kelp and ginger, then chop them finely. Add an appropriate amount of water and bring to a boil. Add the brown sugar and simmer while stirring until the mixture becomes thick and sticky. Remove from heat, let it cool, and store in a sealed jar. Take three times a day, two spoonfuls each time (about 15ml). Ten days constitute one course of treatment.
