If you add other medicinal herbs such as goji berries, Codonopsis root, and Poria to brew it, the effect will be even better. However, are you familiar with the usage of Astragalus tea? Let me explain it to you below.
Usage of Astragalus Tea: One dose per day. It can be taken continuously for 1 week to 3 months, depending on the condition.
Astragalus is generally contraindicated for patients with yin deficiency, damp-heat, or excessive heat-toxin, as it can cause toxic side effects and should be avoided. Because Astragalus is sweet and slightly warm, taking it can exacerbate heat in patients with yin deficiency, easily damaging yin and stirring up blood; for patients with damp-heat or excessive heat-toxin, it can easily trap pathogenic factors and worsen the condition. If Astragalus must be used, it must be combined with other herbs.
Manifestations of yin deficiency include: hot palms and soles, dry mouth and throat, soreness and pain in the lower back, tidal fever and night sweats, insomnia and dream-disturbed sleep, a red tongue with no coating, and a thin, rapid pulse.
Manifestations of damp-heat include: a bitter taste in the mouth, dry mouth, and a greasy yellow tongue coating. Manifestations of excessive heat-toxin include various purulent infections, such as acne infections, pharyngeal infections, peritonitis, etc., characterized by a flushed face, red and dry throat, sore throat, bitter and dry mouth, deep red lips and tongue, a yellow and dry tongue coating, and a slippery, rapid pulse.
For patients with yin deficiency, Astragalus must be combined with yin-nourishing herbs, such as raw rehmannia root, prepared rehmannia root, scrophularia root, ophiopogon root, asparagus root, or Solomon's seal rhizome. For patients with damp-heat, it must be combined with herbs that clear heat and drain dampness, such as coptis root, capillary artemisia, or scutellaria root. For patients with excessive heat-toxin, it must be combined with heat-clearing and detoxifying herbs, such as coptis root, gardenia fruit, rhubarb, or Patrinia herb.
