Few people can resist the sweet temptation of chocolate. Some treat it as a snack, while others use it to stave off hunger. However, many common chocolate pairings in our daily lives are incorrect, such as milk and chocolate or bread and chocolate, which can have adverse effects on health. The following five foods should not be eaten with chocolate.
Milk
Consuming milk and chocolate together can easily lead to diarrhea. Milk is rich in protein and calcium, while chocolate contains oxalic acid. When consumed together, the calcium in milk combines with the oxalic acid in chocolate to form insoluble calcium oxalate. This substance is not absorbed by the body and can cause symptoms like diarrhea and dry hair, affecting growth and development.
Soda
Because chocolate is a high-calorie, high-sugar, and high-fat food, it should not be consumed with sugary beverages like soda or juice. However, you can drink tea with chocolate, as the active ingredients in tea can absorb the oil in chocolate, thereby reducing the chance of indigestion.
Bread
Although chocolate bread is delicious, chocolate is high in sugar and fat, and bread is also a carbohydrate. Eating bread and chocolate together can cause high blood sugar. Both bread and chocolate contain sugar, and for diabetics, consuming them together can cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels after a meal.
Goat's Milk
Goat's milk is rich in protein and calcium, and chocolate contains oxalic acid. Consuming them together forms insoluble calcium oxalate, which severely affects calcium absorption. This can even lead to symptoms like dry hair, diarrhea, and slow growth.
Sesame
Consuming sesame and chocolate together affects intestinal digestion. Because chocolate contains a large amount of oxalic acid, which combines with the calcium in sesame to form calcium oxalate, it inhibits the digestion and absorption of nutrients.
