Quick Tips for Cleaning Grapes

Grapes come in a wide variety, offering a broader selection. But what is the correct way to wash grapes?

1. Place the grapes one by one in a basin of water, but don't remove the stems completely; add enough water to cover the grapes; sprinkle some flour into the water (any type of flour, the easiest one to find at a convenience store will do); stir the water with your palm a few times; discard the cloudy, dirty flour water and rinse with clean water a few times until the water is clear. Flour is a great natural absorbent that can remove dirt and grease from the surface of fruits and vegetables. Flour water can also be used to wash dishes, it's really useful.

2. Place the grapes in a towel and then swish them in the water; the white bloom on the grapes will disappear quickly.

3. Add some salt and gently rub the grapes to ensure the skin is all coated with salt. Soak for 20 minutes, then discard the water, rinse with clean water again, and finally, give them a final rinse with cool, boiled water.
