If you master the water temperature, amount, time, and speed, drinking a glass of plain water on an empty stomach in the morning has many benefits for the body!
1. Replenish fluids
From the last sip of water before bed to waking up, there are seven to eight hours during which you have not consumed any water, yet your body still loses some upon waking. This is when your body is in urgent need of water, and a glass at this moment is just right.
2. Promote bowel movements
When stool stays in the body for too long without enough water to soften it, it can lead to constipation. Therefore, drinking water in the morning is extremely necessary. When fluids are replenished, it can stimulate intestinal peristalsis and promote bowel movements.
3. Dilute the blood
Blood concentration is relatively high in the morning, and your stool may appear darker. Drinking a glass of water at this time can increase blood volume, dilute the blood, and reduce its viscosity, effectively preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
4. Cleanse the stomach and intestines
Drinking a glass of water on an empty stomach in the morning is very good for the body and is known as "detox water." It can cleanse the gastrointestinal tract, dilute stomach acid, alleviate the burden on the stomach, and promptly expel metabolic waste products that have accumulated in the stomach and intestines overnight.
5. Enhance beauty and skin health
The water you drink in the morning is also called "beauty water." Because while it dilutes the blood, it can also expel accumulated toxins. After rehydrating in the morning, the water quickly spreads throughout the body, moisturizing the skin and making it look radiant and supple.
Of course, the prerequisite for enjoying the above benefits is drinking the right kind of water.
The Art of Drinking Plain Water
Timing: Drink on an empty stomach, after brushing your teeth and before breakfast. For instance, I drink a glass of warm water before leaving for work.
Temperature: It varies from person to person whether it should be warm or cool. However, some studies have shown that when the water temperature is around 25°C, the affinity between water molecules and human cells is optimal, and the cells' ability to absorb water is the strongest. Of course, I can't test the exact temperature, so as long as the water isn't too hot for my mouth, it's fine.
Amount: For most people, drinking 150-200 milliliters in the morning is a suitable amount. It should be noted that patients with high blood pressure and abnormal kidney function should pay special attention to their water intake.
Speed: It should not be too fast. Drinking water too quickly is very detrimental to the body and may cause a drop in blood pressure and cerebral edema, leading to headaches, nausea, and vomiting. Of course, it shouldn't be too slow either, as that can easily make you feel the urge to urinate. Just drink it slowly.
