7 Health Benefits of Broccoli

Broccoli is known as a "superfood." Multiple early studies have found that regular consumption of cruciferous vegetables like broccoli helps reduce the risk of various cancers, including colorectal and prostate cancer. According to a report by the UK's Daily Mail, a new American study has found that "topical" application of broccoli can also help prevent sunburn and skin cancer.

A new study, conducted by Dr. Sally Dickinson from the University of Arizona's Cancer Center in the Department of Pharmacology in collaboration with researchers from Johns Hopkins University, found that sulforaphane (SFN), a key component in broccoli, helps prevent sunburn and skin cancer. Dr. Dickinson analyzed that applying a small amount of sulforaphane to the skin can provide skincare and anti-cancer effects similar to sunscreen, showing great potential for preventing skin cancer caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays. To apply, simply slice the "florets" or stalks and rub them onto the skin like sunscreen.

Broccoli is a common sight on many people's dinner tables. The Times of India once published an article titled "7 Health Benefits of Broccoli," which can serve as a reference for everyone.

Cancer Prevention. Like other cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, radishes, and cabbage, broccoli has anti-cancer properties and boosts the immune system.

Lowering Cholesterol. Broccoli is rich in soluble fiber, which helps clear waste from the intestines, lower cholesterol levels, and control blood lipids.

Allergy Prevention. Research has found that active compounds in broccoli can reduce the effects of allergens on the body and lower the risk of allergies.

Antioxidant. Broccoli is rich in various powerful antioxidants, including carotenoids, lutein, zeaxanthin, and beta-carotene.

Strengthening Bones. Broccoli is rich in calcium and vitamin K, two nutrients that are crucial for bone health and preventing osteoporosis.

Heart Protection. Sulforaphane, an isothiocyanate compound in broccoli, has anti-inflammatory properties that can prevent blood vessel damage and protect the heart.

Aids Weight Loss. Broccoli is rich in dietary fiber, which aids digestion, prevents constipation, lowers blood sugar, and prevents overeating, thereby helping with weight loss.
