Summer is a great season for many sweet fruits to come into season, but eating too much is not good. Fruit consumption should also be appropriate and moderate; you should not eat too much just because they are delicious. Below, we introduce several fruits that are not recommended to be eaten in large quantities during the summer.
Banana
Bananas are a fragrant, soft, and delicious fruit, so some people eat them in large quantities at once. However, this is very detrimental to health. Bananas contain relatively high amounts of elements like magnesium and potassium. Although these minerals are essential for human health, consuming too much of them in a short period can cause a sharp increase in the levels of magnesium and potassium in the blood, leading to an imbalance in the proportions of elements like potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium in the body, which is harmful to health. In addition, eating too many bananas can greatly reduce gastric acid secretion, causing gastrointestinal dysfunction and excessive mood swings. Therefore, bananas should not be consumed in excess.
Lychee
Lychee is a special delicacy from southern China, and its taste is very delicious and fresh. However, lychees should not be eaten in large quantities, otherwise, one may suffer from lychee disease. This is because most of the monosaccharides in lychees are fructose. After being absorbed by the body, fructose must be catalyzed by a series of enzymes to be converted into glucose for energy or into glycogen for storage, which can then be oxidized and utilized by tissue cells. If too many lychees are eaten at once, an excessive amount of fructose is consumed, causing the blood sugar (the concentration of glucose in the blood) to drop much lower than normal, leading to hypoglycemia. Therefore, lychee disease is an acute disease caused by hypoglycemia, characterized by an onset in the early morning, often with initial symptoms like sweating, cold limbs, fatigue, abdominal pain, and mild diarrhea, followed by sudden convulsions and coma. If not treated, death can occur within a few hours. Children, in particular, should be especially careful not to eat too many, as it can seriously affect their health.
Peach
The nutritional feature of peaches is their relatively high iron content, and they also contain protein, sugar, calcium, pectin, etc., making them especially suitable for people with anemia. The pectin in peaches can promote intestinal peristalsis, so it has the effect of preventing constipation. Although peaches are delicious, they should not be eaten in large quantities, as eating too many can cause acute gastrointestinal diseases such as diarrhea.
Watermelon
Watermelon has a sweet and cool nature; for summer heat, thirst, and vexation in the chest and heart, one can eat some watermelon to relieve summer heat and clear heat. However, eating too much is not good for your health. This is because, from the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, watermelon is a "cold" food, and excessive consumption can easily cause adverse symptoms such as a cold stomach, abdominal fullness and bloating, and decreased digestive power. In addition, watermelon contains extremely rich sugar content. Eating too much watermelon means consuming a large amount of sugar. The excess sugar is stored in the body as fat, making the body fluids acidic, which affects human health. It also affects dietary balance, leading to reduced intake of protein, minerals, and other nutrients, thereby causing nutritional imbalance.
