Crabs are delicious, but there's a proper way to eat them
It's that time of year again when crabs are in season. Although crabs are delicious, some people experience abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting after eating them. The main reason for this is food poisoning caused by poor hygiene. Therefore, you should pay attention to the following points when eating crabs:
First, do not wash them improperly: Crab shells often have sand and mud, which must be washed with cold water. Inedible parts should also be removed as much as possible, as bacteria can easily breed in these areas, especially when making pan-fried crabs.
Second, do not cook them thoroughly: If crabs are not cooked thoroughly, E. coli and other bacteria are not easily killed, which often leads to diarrhea after consumption.
Third, do not eat too many: Crabs are considered a "cold" food in traditional Chinese medicine. Eating too many can easily cause diarrhea, and it is especially harmful to people with stomach problems. It is best to add some ginger and vinegar when eating; vinegar can remove the fishy smell, kill bacteria, and break down proteins faster to enhance the umami flavor.
Fourth, do not eat dead crabs: Some people greedily eat dead crabs, thinking that cooking them for a long time will make them safe. In fact, dead crabs are often spoiled and rotten. Besides containing a large number of bacteria, they also contain some spoiled substances that can easily cause adverse reactions and poisoning in the human body.
Fifth, do not eat crabs if you are ill: People who are sick or have an allergic constitution are prone to nausea, vomiting, and hives after eating crabs.
Sixth, do not eat crabs with incompatible foods: Do not eat with persimmons; persimmons contain tannic acid, while crab meat is rich in protein. When they meet, they can coagulate into tannic acid protein, causing poisoning symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Do not eat with pears; Traditional Chinese medicine believes that pears are "cold" in nature, and crabs are "cold" and "astringent." Eating them together can harm the stomach and intestines. Do not eat with peanuts; peanuts are greasy and contain up to 45% fat. Crabs are "cold" and "astringent" foods, and eating them together can easily cause diarrhea. Do not eat with eggplant; eggplant is sweet and "cold," and crabs are also "cold" and "cool." Eating them together can cause gastrointestinal discomfort and harm the stomach and intestines.
