Seemingly Healthy Junk Food
In your daily life, you might not realize that some foods labeled as nutritional or long considered healthy are actually devoid of nutrition. Let's get to know these well-disguised "junk foods."
Green Tea Drinks
Green tea contains antioxidants and other beneficial components that can prevent cancer, heart disease, aging, and other age-related diseases. However, many manufacturers now add sugar and other additives to create green tea beverages, marketing them under the guise of being healthy. In reality, any ingredient on the "green tea" bottle, such as saccharin, preservatives, etc., pushes it further away from being healthy.
Processed Yogurt
Yogurt is made from fermented fresh milk and is rich in protein, calcium, and vitamins. It can be an excellent choice for those who are lactose intolerant and cannot enjoy milk. But now, much yogurt has been turned into a "dessert" full of sugar and various processed fruits, and it's this "packaging" that allows merchants to disguise it as a health food. Therefore, when buying, it's best to choose plain yogurt and add your own fruit if necessary.
Breakfast Cereal
Grains such as wheat, barley, rice, and oats have always been one of humanity's most important foods. The protein, dietary fiber, and vitamins they contain are unparalleled by other foods. However, some "colorful" breakfast cereals, made by combining a small amount of grains with large amounts of starch, white sugar, corn syrup, salt, food coloring, and preservatives, significantly reduce the nutritional value of these grains.
Pizza
In Italy, pizza is even protected by law, which stipulates that it must be made from whole wheat flour, tomato sauce, white cheese, olive oil, basil, and other spices. Pizza is inherently very nutritious. The pizzas sold by many fast-food chains today use preservatives, cheap artificial fats, nutritionless canned fruits, long-freezable meats, and a large amount of salt... These pizzas are extremely high in calories and sodium content, yet their nutritional value is negligible.
