How to Use Dishwashing Detergent Safely?

The state has implemented strict hygiene regulations for the quality of dishwashing detergent. For example, dishwashing detergent cannot contain the brightening agents and enzyme preparations commonly used in general detergents; its bacterial content must be controlled within a range that meets hygiene standards; toxic and harmful substances such as lead, arsenic, and mercury contained within it must not exceed relevant regulations; when used to wash vegetables and fruits, it should not affect their color, aroma, or taste, nor destroy their nutritional value; it should have no corrosive effect on tableware, etc. Therefore, dishwashing detergent that meets national quality inspection standards has a relatively high safety factor.

Compared to its use, the issue of residue from dishwashing detergent is more worthy of attention. Dishwashing detergent is synthesized from various chemical components such as sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate and fatty alcohol polyethylene. Because these chemical components are not essential for the human body, and a small amount of residue is inevitably left after use, authoritative experts believe that the accumulation of dishwashing detergent residue in the body over time is detrimental to human health. Therefore, attention should be paid to the following during use:

Dishwashing detergent can cause some damage to the skin, so the duration of each contact should generally not exceed 40 minutes (you can wear rubber gloves for washing), and it should be rinsed clean with water afterwards. It should not be used when the skin is broken.

When washing dishes with dishwashing detergent, the following two methods can be used:

1. Dilute the dishwashing detergent with water 200 to 500 times, soak for 2 to 5 minutes, scrub with a sponge or cloth, and then rinse thoroughly with running water.

2. Pour the dishwashing detergent directly onto a sponge or cloth, dip it in a small amount of water to scrub the dishes (note to wear rubber gloves), and then rinse thoroughly with running water.

The second washing method is recommended. This method has a high washing concentration and better washing results, and can even clean heavy grease well.

The steps for washing vegetables and fruits are: first, rinse off the dirt on the surface of the vegetables and fruits with clean water, then add dishwashing detergent and soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Note that the concentration of dishwashing detergent should be around 0.2%, or follow the product's instructions. The soaking time should not be too long to prevent excessive dishwashing detergent from seeping into the vegetables and fruits, leading to a loss of vitamins and a decrease in nutritional value. After soaking, rinse the vegetables and fruits 2 to 3 times under running water before proceeding to peel, cut, or otherwise process them.
