In Chinese folk custom, eating "dumplings" on New Year's Eve is a major feast that cannot be replaced by any delicacies of mountains and seas. No matter what, in order to get rid of the bad luck of the year, you should eat a meal of "dumplings" on New Year's Eve.
According to folk interpretation,"New Year's Eve" is the day when people, ghosts and gods fight against each other. Therefore, everyone must participate in order to achieve auspicious peace and prosperity in the coming year.
A ghost is a "night". It is a ghost born of the bad luck of the world for a year. "Xi" will come out to harm the world on the 30th of the twelfth lunar month, when the old and the new alternate! At this time, it can only be eliminated by the combined efforts of people.
On the 30th day of the twelfth lunar month every year, God sends the god "Nian" to come to the world to suppress demons and eliminate ghosts. However,"Nian" only has 90% of his power on New Year's Eve, which proves that the evil spirit "Xi" is very powerful and must be assisted by people to eliminate "Xi". Therefore, people should light firecrackers together at mid-hour on New Year's Eve to help "Nian" get rid of the evil ghost "Xi" that has harmed the world.
At Jiaozi on New Year's Eve, people eat dumplings and add strength to their bodies. Then, men, women and children will sound firecrackers together to help the gods get rid of evil spirits. Then they will piously post a new portrait of the Kitchen God, and worship dumplings in front of the portraits of the God of Wealth and the Kitchen God. Delicious food mainly composed of dumplings will be offered in order to convey a peaceful, auspicious and rich year. This is the origin of the custom of "the sound of firecrackers removes the old year".
I don't know whether Da Chao Shao has written this folk story successfully. Of course, there are still many explanations. I just introduce to you the most classic part of eating dumplings except the old year.
This is a real story! My grandfather was very serious when he told me stories, haha! This ghost is all caused by your bad luck all year. If you don't take it seriously, everything will definitely not go smoothly in the coming year. It's very effective. Remember, that's right, haha!
