A Guide to Making Pizza: From Dough to Toppings

Making pizza at home is a fun and rewarding process. Here’s a simple guide to crafting the perfect pie.

Start with the dough: Mix 2 cups flour, 1 tsp yeast, 1 tsp salt, and 3/4 cup warm water. Knead for 10 minutes until smooth, then let it rise for 1–2 hours until doubled in size. For the sauce, simmer crushed tomatoes with garlic, olive oil, oregano, and a pinch of salt for 15 minutes.

Preheat your oven to its highest temperature (450–500°F or 230–260°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness—thin for a crispy crust, thick for a chewy one. Transfer to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread sauce evenly, leaving a border for the crust. Add toppings: mozzarella cheese is essential, but feel free to experiment with pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, or olives.

Bake for 12–15 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese bubbles. Let it cool for a few minutes, then slice and enjoy. The key is fresh ingredients and not overloading toppings. With practice, you’ll master your perfect pizza!
