The scientific name of the white fruit fish is Baigu fish, and the local name in Ningbo and Shipu areas is Mouzui or Baiguo. Baiguo is a small bottom-level fish that lives in a water depth of 30-40 meters and a salinity of 20-21 degrees. It generally weighs 50-250 grams. Although the individuals are not large, they are large in number and widely distributed. They begin to migrate every year in the middle of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, entering from deep water to a depth of 8-15 meters to collect food and lay eggs. It ends in mid-to-late August.

White fruit fish is very similar to yellow croaker, but the price is much cheaper than yellow croaker! So some unscrupulous merchants paint the white fruit fish with some yellow color and sell it as yellow croaker
