Madeleine cake (shell cake) is a French-style dessert originally used for home cooking. The hero who promoted it to the cake halls around the world is Proust, the great French writer. Proust's taste memories of shell cakes led him to write a long literary masterpiece "Remembering the Past Years", thus also putting shell cakes on the historical stage.
