Spicy Shredded Purple Cabbage: A Quick & Easy Recipe

Spicy shredded purple cabbage is a vibrant, crunchy, and healthy dish that’s perfect as a side or light meal. Here’s a simple yet flavorful recipe to make it at home.

Ingredients:

- 1 medium purple cabbage (about 500g), thinly shredded

- 2 tbsp vegetable oil

- 1 tsp dried chili flakes (adjust to taste)

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 tbsp light soy sauce

- 1 tsp rice vinegar

- ½ tsp sugar

- A pinch of salt

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Cabbage: Shred the purple cabbage finely using a knife or mandoline. Soak it in cold water for 5 minutes to make it extra crisp, then drain thoroughly and pat dry.

2. Make the Spice Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a small pan over medium-low heat. Add dried chili flakes and minced garlic, stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant (do not burn the garlic). Remove from heat.

3. Combine & Season: In a large bowl, mix the shredded cabbage with the hot spice oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Toss well to ensure every leaf is coated.

4. Serve: Let it marinate for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Tips: For a nutty twist, add 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds. You can also add shredded carrots or bell peppers for extra color and crunch. This dish stays fresh in the fridge for up to 2 days. Enjoy this zesty, healthy treat!
