How to Make Horn Pastries: A Simple Guide

Horn pastries, with their crispy, flaky layers and sweet fillings, are a beloved treat. Here’s a basic recipe to make them at home.

Ingredients:

For the dough: 250g all-purpose flour, 120g cold butter (cut into cubes), 1 tbsp sugar, a pinch of salt, and 6-7 tbsp ice water.

For the filling: 100g crushed walnuts, 50g brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, and 1 tbsp honey (mix well).

Steps:

1. Make the dough: In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add cold butter and rub with fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs. Gradually add ice water, knead into a smooth dough, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

2. Prepare the filling: Combine walnuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, and honey in a bowl.

3. Shape the pastries: Roll the dough into a 30x20cm rectangle. Spread the filling evenly on one half, fold the other half over, and press edges. Cut into 8-10 triangles. Roll each triangle from the base to the tip into a horn shape.

4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Place pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
