How to Make Orange Jam: A Simple Guide

Making orange jam at home is a delightful way to preserve the citrusy goodness of oranges. Follow this easy recipe to create a delicious spread for toast, pastries, or yogurt.

Ingredients:

- 4 large oranges (preferably seedless)

- 2 cups granulated sugar (adjust based on orange sweetness)

- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (for balance)

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for depth)

Steps:

1. Prep the Oranges: Wash oranges thoroughly. Peel and remove white pith, as it can make jam bitter. Chop the flesh into small pieces, removing any seeds.

2. Cook the Base: In a heavy-bottomed pot, combine orange pieces, sugar, and lemon juice. Let it sit for 30 minutes to allow sugar to draw out juices.

3. Simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Cook for 20–30 minutes until the mixture thickens and reaches a jam-like consistency (test by placing a small drop on a cold plate—it should wrinkle when pushed).

4. Add Vanilla (Optional): Stir in vanilla extract during the last 5 minutes of cooking.

5. Preserve: Sterilize jars by boiling them for 10 minutes. Pour hot jam into jars, seal tightly, and let cool. Store in the refrigerator for up to a month or can for longer shelf life.

Enjoy your homemade orange jam, bursting with fresh, vibrant flavor!
